Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited (ARACT), a subsidiary of Amara Raja Energy & Mobility Limited (ARE&M), has marked a significant milestone with a grand groundbreaking ceremony for its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at Divitipally, Mahabubnagar district. The event was attended by notable figures from the industry, including Steven Cai, Board Member and President of Gotion EMEA; Diego Graffi, CMD of Piaggio Vehicles India; Ashish Jangale, VP and Head SSU of Mahindra & Mahindra; Swapnil Jain, Co-founder of Ather Energy; Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of ARE&M; and Harshavardhana and Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Directors of ARE&M.
Phase 1 of the new battery pack plant was inaugurated, boasting an initial capacity of 1.5 GWh. The facility is designed to manufacture Li-ion battery packs tailored to Indian conditions and will cater to major electric vehicle (EV) original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and stationary energy storage needs. The CQP, set to begin operations in the first quarter of the next financial year, will produce various cell types for customer testing and validation. This development follows ARE&M’s recent collaboration with Gotion Inobat (GIB) for technology, manufacturing, and customized solutions.
The Giga Corridor project, spanning 260 acres, represents an investment of ₹9,500 Crore through 2031 and will feature an advanced cell manufacturing Gigafactory and battery pack facility. Additionally, the company is constructing the ePositive Energy Labs, a pioneering advanced energy research and innovation center in Hyderabad.
During the event, Amara Raja also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited. This agreement entails the development and supply of LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Li-ion cells and chargers for Piaggio’s EV three-wheelers and forthcoming two-wheeler models. Amara Raja had previously signed a similar MoU with Ather Energy.
Mr. Jayadev Galla, Chairman and Managing Director of ARE&M, expressed, “Our mission at Amara Raja has always been to create opportunities for people. Today’s groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a transformative journey for this region. It represents our commitment to creating sustainable job opportunities for local youth through the Gigacorridor. We deeply appreciate the unwavering support from the Telangana Government.”
Vikramadithya Gourineni, Executive Director of ARE&M, added, “We expect this initiative to play a pivotal role in advancing India’s energy transition. Our dedication to adopting new technologies is exemplified by the establishment of this world-class manufacturing unit. The CQP, the first of its kind in India, will enable us to develop tailored cell chemistries for each customer’s needs.”
