Ford Pro has announced the rollout of the new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility (PIU), featuring a popular hybrid powertrain option, to police agencies nationwide. The Ford PIU, renowned as America’s best-selling police vehicle, continues to lead the market with its innovative pursuit-rated law enforcement features.

The 2025 PIU hybrid system powers onboard equipment even when the gas engine is off, offering potential fuel savings of up to 838 gallons per year. This translates to cost reductions of approximately $17,500 over a six-year ownership period, with gas priced at $3.50 per gallon. “Officers often have long idle times when on patrol, so the hybrid powertrain is a popular choice,” said Lindsey Bertino, Ford Pro Police Vehicle Marketing Manager. Additionally, the standardization of features like Police Perimeter Alert enhances situational awareness and simplifies the ordering process for fleet managers.

Designed with officer safety in mind, the PIU meets Ford’s 75-mph rear-impact crash test goals and includes advanced safety features. The Police Perimeter Alert system detects threats around the vehicle, automatically activating the rear camera, sounding an alarm, and locking the doors to ensure officer security. The Police Engine Idle feature allows officers to lock the vehicle and take the keys while keeping the engine running to power onboard equipment.

Optional ballistic panels provide Level III+ or IV+ protection, capable of resisting various bullets up to .30 caliber. Advanced driver-assist technologies like Automatic Emergency Braking, BLIS (Blind Spot Monitoring with Cross-traffic Alert), and Rear Cross-Traffic Braking are now standard, offering driving assurance in diverse scenarios.

Departments can choose from three powertrain options:

  • 3.3-liter direct-injected V6 with hybrid system (AWD): 318 horsepower, 322 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • 3.3L V6 gas engine (AWD): 285 horsepower, 260 lb.-ft. of torque.
  • 3.0L V6 EcoBoost® engine (AWD): 400 horsepower, 415 lb.-ft. of torque.

New features include a 12.3-inch LCD digital instrument cluster, Manual Police Pursuit Mode, and Police Dark Car feature for discretion during stakeouts. The Ford Pro Vehicle Integration System 2.0 allows for easier customization, while over-the-air capabilities ensure seamless updates. Officers can control lights, sirens, and other equipment via remappable switches integrated into the steering wheel.

The 2025 PIU also includes a lockable vault for secure storage and the Police Accessory Independent Timed-Release Output (PAITRO) for cargo security. Equipped with a Ford modem, agencies have the option to subscribe to Ford Pro Telematics, providing real-time vehicle data to optimize maintenance and productivity.
