Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has launched its inaugural VF 8 model, claiming to make high-end electric vehicles (EVs) more attainable. Recent market analysis reveals that VinFast is fulfilling this promise, offering significant value for money compared to its competitors.
The VF 8 Plus, a twin-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) D-SUV, presents a compelling case in Europe. When adjusting the prices of competing models to match the VF 8 Plus’s standard features, they average 14.5% more expensive. Despite the added costs, not all rivals can match the VF 8 Plus’s comprehensive standard specifications and AWD capability.
VinFast’s strategy emphasizes delivering exceptional value and price transparency, aiming to build trust with customers. The VF 8 Plus comes equipped with a host of premium features, including heated and ventilated front and rear seats, 12-way electric driver and 10-way passenger seat adjustments, a 15.6-inch high-definition infotainment screen, panoramic roof, head-up display, and a 360-degree camera.
Safety is a key focus for VinFast, and the VF 8 Plus includes a full ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) package with Level 2 adaptive cruise control. It also boasts a segment-leading 11 airbags and a range of advanced safety technologies such as Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind Spot Detection.
The VF 8 Plus earned high marks in Euro NCAP testing, particularly for Child Occupant Protection, where it achieved an impressive 89% score. The vehicle also received commendations for its cyclist and pedestrian protection features, including warning systems for approaching cyclists even while reversing.
VinFast’s approach ensures that all VF 8 customers benefit from high safety standards and extensive features without the need for costly add-ons. This strategy has allowed the company to offer competitive monthly lease deals across Germany, France, and the Netherlands, with pricing affected by regional EV incentives.
In addition to the VF 8 Plus, VinFast offers the more economical VF 8 Eco, which features a 260kW motor and a WLTP range of up to 471 km. Despite the availability of this model, the VF 8 Plus, with its 300kW motor and a range of up to 457 km, accounts for over 95% of European orders, a trend expected to continue.
Each VF 8 model comes with a unique 10-year, 200,000 km bumper-to-bumper warranty, including unlimited mileage cover for the 87.7 kWh battery. With its focus on affordability, reliability, and comprehensive aftersales support, VinFast aims to drive EV adoption in Europe and contribute to the decarbonization of mobility
