TOYOTA GAZOO Racing announced enhancements to the GR86, aiming to improve turning performance and upper-limit handling, thus deepening its unique driving feel. Orders are now open at Toyota dealers across Japan, with sales beginning on August 1. Additionally, TGR introduced a purchasing lottery for the RZ “Ridge Green Limited,” a special-edition model featuring the new Ridge Green exterior color, exclusive bronze wheels, and unique interior embroidery. The lottery runs until July 28, with limited sales of 200 units starting around October.
The GR86, developed jointly with Subaru Corporation and sharing its base with the Subaru BRZ, has been popular since its debut in 2021. It is celebrated for delivering the distinctive driving feel of a GR vehicle, characterized by intuitive handling, linear response, and exceptional agility. The latest upgrades to the GR86 draw from TGR’s motorsports experience, incorporating feedback from professional racecar drivers to enhance its performance.
Enhancements include improved shock absorber damping characteristics, refined electric power steering (EPS) control, modified throttle characteristics for manual transmission models, and an expanded engine-speed tolerance range during downshifts for automatic transmission models. These improvements contribute to a better sense of ground contact, improved steering response, and enhanced linearity, further elevating the GR86 driving experience.
