Volkswagen has unveiled the new Golf R and Golf R Variant, the top-of-the-line Golf models, featuring enhanced driving dynamics, exclusive standard equipment, and an output of 245 kW (333 PS). This represents a 10 kW (14 PS) increase from their predecessors. The top speed is 250 km/h, which can be boosted to 270 km/h with the optional R-Performance package, making them the fastest Volkswagen production models alongside the Arteon R Shooting Brake. Pre-sales start on July 3 in Germany, with the Golf R priced at €53,795 and the Golf R Variant at €55,065. Additionally, the exclusive Golf R Black Edition is available starting at €58,440.
The new R models, based on the updated eighth generation of the Golf, feature a sharper design and an expanded range of R-specific equipment. Highlights include a redesigned front with LED Plus headlights, an illuminated VW badge, air curtains in the bumper, new LED tail light clusters, and optional 19-inch “Warmenau” forged wheels. Standard equipment includes the enhanced Digital Cockpit Pro, adaptive chassis control (DCC), and the Vehicle Dynamics Manager, providing a balance between everyday driving comfort and sportiness. The Golf R Variant also offers a maximum luggage compartment volume of 1,642 liters with folded rear seat backrests.
