At the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show, Hyundai Motor Company revealed the INSTER1, a revolutionary A-segment sub-compact electric vehicle (EV). Combining innovative design, exceptional driving range, and advanced technology, the INSTER is set to redefine the sub-compact EV market.
The INSTER’s bold and futuristic design features a spacious interior within a small SUV body, enhanced by a sophisticated technology package for safe, refined driving. Offering segment-leading all-electric range (AER) of up to 355 km2, the INSTER delivers eco-friendly flexibility, agile driving dynamics, and seamless connectivity, making it an ideal choice for urban environments.
Building on the design legacy of the petrol-powered CASPER, the INSTER boasts an extended body and wheelbase, providing increased interior space and rugged road presence. Positioned between traditional A-segment sub-compact cars and larger B-segment models, the INSTER offers maneuverability and practicality, with expanded interior space and improved luggage capacity.
Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center, stated, “With INSTER, we’ve taken the small SUV image to a bold new place for the global audience. INSTER punches well above its weight with distinctive design and an interior that maximizes its potential in exciting, customer-centric ways. With INSTER, we’re redefining what it means to drive a sub-compact EV.”
The exterior design features robust fenders, a high-tech bumper, and a bold skid plate, complemented by LED daytime running lights, pixel-graphic turn signals, and a two-tone exterior with contrasting black roof options. Wheel choices include 15-inch steel, 15-inch alloy, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the INSTER offers advanced technology and convenience with a 10.25-inch digital cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a wireless charging dock. The interior design features customizable upper door trim garnishes and versatile seating arrangements, including fold-flat seats for increased flexibility.
The INSTER’s color options include Atlas White, Tomboy Khaki, Bijarim Khaki Matte, and new hues such as Sienna Orange Metallic and Buttercream Yellow Pearl. The interior trim choices include Black and a two-tone Khaki Brown and Newtro Beige.
Equipped with a 42 kWh battery standard and an optional Long-Range 49 kWh battery, the INSTER offers a projected range of 355 km (WLTP)3 for the Long-Range model. Fast charging capabilities allow the INSTER to charge from 10 to 80 percent in around 30 minutes using a 120 kW DC High-Power charging station. The vehicle also features external and internal Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality for powering external devices.
Safety and convenience are paramount, with a comprehensive Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) package, including features such as Surround View Monitor (SVM), Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear (PCA-R), Blind-spot View Monitor (BVM), and more.
The INSTER will launch first in Korea this summer, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. An additional variant, INSTER CROSS4, will join the lineup with a more rugged, outdoor-focused design.
