Volkswagen models with new-generation infotainment system are now equipped with ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence (AI). This AI-based research tool is available in all new vehicles in the all-electric ID. family, as well as the new Golf, new Tiguan, and new Passat. Accessible via the IDA voice assistant, it offers advanced capabilities far beyond the previous voice control. Current Volkswagen models already enable users to control infotainment, navigation, and climate control systems using the IDA online voice assistant. The vehicle can also answer questions on various topics. With the integration of ChatGPT, the possibilities have greatly expanded. The AI can now provide information on tourist attractions, report on past football tournaments, and help solve math problems. This all works intuitively: drivers simply speak to the assistant in natural language without needing to take their eyes off the road.
Volkswagen customers with an existing VW Connect/VW Connect Plus account can continue using the IDA voice assistant without needing extra access or an additional app. The digital assistant is activated by saying “Hello IDA” or pressing the button on the steering wheel. If the Volkswagen system cannot answer a query, it is forwarded anonymously to ChatGPT, which then provides the response in the familiar Volkswagen voice. ChatGPT does not have access to vehicle data at any time. Questions and answers are deleted immediately to ensure optimal data protection.
