The Volkswagen Group brand Elli has launched a groundbreaking product for electric vehicle (EV) charging, the Elli Charger 2. This new charger is packed with a host of services designed to drastically reduce charging costs and is part of a seamlessly integrated ecosystem. Volkswagen customers can now purchase their EV, charger, and electricity tariff all from one source, and soon, they will be able to add a solar panel system to their purchase via select Volkswagen sales channels.

In a strategic move, Elli has partnered with European solar panel provider Otovo to offer e-mobility customers comprehensive and innovative home energy solutions. This collaboration underscores Elli’s commitment to making the EV charging experience simpler and more cost-effective.

“To drive e-mobility, we have to make the charging experience simpler and significantly more cost-effective for customers. This is where the new Elli Charger 2 shines,” stated Giovanni Palazzo, CEO of Elli and SVP of Volkswagen Group Charging & Energy. “It charges when solar energy is available and electricity prices are at their lowest. The smart charging functions not only provide real cost savings for customers but also represent a milestone in the use of renewable energy.”

The Elli Charger 2 integrates solar energy production (solar surplus charging) and utilizes Volkswagen Naturstrom Flex for market price-optimized charging, allowing it to charge at times of lower electricity prices and high availability of renewable energy. Elli’s acquisition of a trading license on the European Power Exchange in July 2023 enables this optimization, potentially reducing charging costs by up to 40%.

Designed with customer needs from 28 European markets in mind, the new charger addresses both cost and charging speed, which are critical factors for consumers. It will be available in four versions, compatible with any EV featuring a Type-2 charging port. The charger’s new metering functions provide cost transparency and dynamic load management, making it suitable for both private households and commercial settings.

“The Elli Charger 2 represents the pinnacle of quality and innovation,” Palazzo added. “The connection to Volkswagen Group as a multi-brand corporation provides significant added value for us as a company, but above all, it’s a huge advantage for our customers. They benefit from a charger meticulously engineered in collaboration with vehicle and mobility experts. Additionally, the ‘made in Germany’ label guarantees domestic production. Powerful and smart charging products will drive Elli on its path to becoming one of the largest energy companies in Europe and ensure the success of e-mobility and the decarbonization of our society.”

With the introduction of the Elli Charger 2, Volkswagen Group and Elli are set to significantly enhance the EV charging experience, paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient energy future.
