BMW has introduced the fourth generation of its 1 Series, a pioneer in the premium compact segment, featuring dynamic design, advanced powertrains, and cutting-edge technology. Set for market launch in October 2024, the new BMW 1 Series combines sporty aesthetics with sustainability, boasting highly efficient engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology and a resource-conserving production process.

Dynamic Design and Enhanced Performance

The exterior of the new BMW 1 Series showcases a dynamic front end, hallmark BMW proportions, and a powerful rear. The vehicle has slightly increased in length and height, enhancing its sporty character. The front end features a lower stance and a wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille with innovative vertical and diagonal bars. Standard LED headlights and optional adaptive LED headlights with matrix high beam and cornering light function emphasize its modern look.

The BMW M135 xDrive, the top model in the range, is powered by a 221 kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine and features an Adaptive M Chassis with sport steering and intelligent all-wheel drive. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds. The M-specific design elements, including large air intakes, pronounced side skirts, and a three-dimensional diffuser, highlight its performance capabilities.

Sustainable and High-Tech Interior

The interior of the new BMW 1 Series, completely leather-free as standard, offers a premium and sporty ambiance. It includes high-quality surfaces, a redesigned gear selector, and the BMW Curved Display with a 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display. The use of digital technology has significantly reduced the number of buttons and controls in the cockpit.

The new BMW iDrive with QuickSelect, based on BMW Operating System 9, ensures intuitive and convenient operation. It includes a vertically arranged home screen and direct access to functions without navigating through submenus. The system supports touch operation and voice control, enhancing the user experience.

Advanced Powertrains and Improved Efficiency

The new BMW 1 Series features the latest generation of engines, including three-cylinder petrol and four-cylinder diesel engines with 48-volt mild hybrid technology. These engines are paired with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch as standard, providing efficient and responsive power delivery.

The BMW 120 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.8 seconds, while the BMW 120d achieves the same in 7.9 seconds. The BMW 118d, powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine, accelerates in 8.3 seconds. These engines are designed to offer both performance and fuel efficiency, making the new BMW 1 Series an attractive option in the compact segment.

Enhanced Safety and Automated Systems

The new BMW 1 Series comes with a comprehensive range of automated driving and parking systems, including Driving Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant. Optional features such as Steering and Lane Control Assist, Automatic Speed Limit Assist, and Parking Assistant Professional further enhance safety and convenience.

Expanded Standard and Optional Features

The new BMW 1 Series offers expanded standard equipment, including automatic air conditioning, electrically folding exterior mirrors, and BMW Live Cockpit Plus with BMW Maps cloud-based navigation. Optional packages, such as the Innovation Package and Premium Package, allow for targeted individualization with features like BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Head-Up Display, Comfort Access, and adaptive LED headlights.

Market Launch and Production

The new BMW 1 Series will be produced at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, with the German domestic market being the most important sales region. Other key markets include European countries and Japan. The new model generation marks a significant milestone in BMW’s 20-year success story in the compact segment, combining performance, sustainability, and advanced technology.
