Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has inaugurated its first 180 kW DC fast public electric vehicle (EV) charging station in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The station features 150 kW and 30 kW connectors. This facility is currently the only fast public EV charging station in Chennai and marks the beginning of HMIL’s initiative to install 100 fast public EV charging stations along key highways and in major cities across Tamil Nadu.
The charging station has been strategically located at Spencer Plaza Mall, Anna Salai, Thousand Lights in the heart of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is conveniently situated near customer amenities such as coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping venues, enhancing the overall experience for customers while they charge their electric vehicles.
All EV customers can benefit from a quick charging experience at HMIL’s 180 kW DC fast charging station. Through HMIL’s Charger Management System on the myHyundai App, EV owners can easily locate, navigate to, and pre-book charging slots. The app also facilitates digital payments and allows users to monitor the charging status remotely. Besides this fast public charging station, the “EV Charge” section of the myHyundai app maps over 170 other charging points in Tamil Nadu for customer convenience. This app is accessible to both Hyundai and non-Hyundai EV users.
Mr. Jae Wan Ryu, Executive Director – Corporate Planning, HMIL, said, “Tamil Nadu is home for Hyundai Motor India Limited, and we have been committed to Tamil Nadu since our inception. As we celebrate 28 years of HMIL in India, we are delighted to inaugurate our first ever 180 kW fast public charging station in Chennai. In line with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’, we aim to enhance convenience of all EV users, and hence our charging stations can be utilized by any four-wheeler EV user. HMIL envisages to install 100 charging stations across Tamil Nadu, to enhance the EV ecosystem and motivate more customers towards EV adoption across the state.”
