The future of driving is connected, according to Counterpoint Research. Their latest report predicts a staggering surge in connected car sales, with the global market expected to exceed 500 million vehicles between 2024 and 2030.
This connected car boom is fueled by several factors. The report highlights the increasing integration of electrification, autonomous driving features, and advanced infotainment systems, all of which rely on robust connectivity.
China Leads the Charge, 5G Takes the Wheel
China is positioned to be the frontrunner in this connected car revolution. Analysts predict they will achieve near-complete connectivity penetration (almost all new cars sold being connected) by 2028. The report also suggests that by 2030, nearly nine out of ten connected cars sold globally will boast 5G capability.
Presently, 4G is the dominant cellular technology used in connected cars. However, the demands of future features like advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving necessitate the faster speeds and lower latency offered by 5G.
Germany Currently Leads, But the Race is On
While China is projected to take the lead soon, Germany currently holds the top spot for connected car penetration. The report indicates that other major players like the US, India, and Japan are expected to follow closely behind China, collectively accounting for over two-thirds of global connected car sales by 2030.
This significant growth in connected car sales presents exciting possibilities for the future of transportation. From enhanced safety features and improved navigation to personalized in-car experiences, the integration of connectivity promises to transform the driving experience.
