As the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) gears up for its third round, all eyes are on TOYOTA GAZOO Racing as they aim to continue their winning streak at the iconic 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.
After a thrilling victory at the 6 Hours of Imola last month, where drivers Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries clinched the top spot in their #7 GR010 HYBRID, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is determined to maintain their momentum and secure another historic win at Spa.
The team’s unparalleled record at Spa-Francorchamps speaks volumes; they have claimed victory in seven consecutive races, making their mark as the dominant force in endurance racing at the legendary Belgian circuit. With eight wins out of 11 races overall and an unbeaten streak since 2017, TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is poised to make history once again.
Heading into Spa, Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi are eyeing a hat-trick of wins, having emerged victorious in the last two editions of the race. Sébastien Buemi, a five-time winner at Spa, alongside teammate Brendon Hartley, aims to add another victory to his impressive track record, while Ryo Hirakawa and Nyck de Vries are eager to secure their first Spa WEC win.
Spa-Francorchamps, renowned for its undulating, high-speed layout through the Ardennes forest, offers a challenging yet exhilarating experience for drivers and fans alike. With iconic corners such as Eau Rouge-Raidillon, Pouhon, and Blanchimont, the 7.004km circuit promises edge-of-your-seat action from start to finish.
For TOYOTA GAZOO Racing, Spa holds extra significance as one of their home races, alongside Fuji Speedway. With their technical center located just 120km away in Cologne, Germany, and the support of colleagues from Toyota Motor Europe in Brussels, the team is poised to showcase their prowess on home soil.
As the last race before the prestigious Le Mans 24 Hours, Spa serves as a crucial milestone in the team’s preparation, providing an opportunity to fine-tune their GR010 HYBRIDs on a layout similar to the Circuit de la Sarthe.
With track activities set to commence on Thursday, May 9th, fans can expect two days of exhilarating action culminating in the Six Hours of Spa-Francorchamps race on Saturday, May 11th, at 1pm CEST. As TOYOTA GAZOO Racing aims to extend their dominance, anticipation is high for another thrilling chapter in the history of endurance racing.
