Yulu, the provider of shared electric two-wheeler mobility in India, in collaboration with Zeco Mobility, a local firm, announced the commencement of its operations in Kochi. The launch coincides with the auspicious occasion of Vishu and marks the expansion of Yulu’s services outside major cities. Under the partnership, Zeco Mobility, led by clean energy and mobility entrepreneur R Shyam Shankar, will independently operate Yulu’s electric vehicle (EV) service in Kochi with support from Yulu in terms of infrastructure and technology.
This initiative in Kochi is the second instance of success for Yulu’s Business Partner (YBP) program, aimed at democratizing shared mobility beyond metropolitan areas. Kochi becomes the second city, after Indore, where Yulu has partnered with local entrepreneurs to extend its services. Known for its eco-friendly tourism infrastructure, Kochi provides an ideal setting for Yulu and Zeco to introduce smart and shared EVs, enhancing sustainable tourism and commuting options with features such as zero emissions and high accessibility.
Zeco Mobility has strategically placed Yulu’s EVs at four zones across Kochi, covering key areas like Marine Drive, Broadway, and Kaloor Stadium, among others. The services will be available from 7:00 AM to 12:00 midnight, offering users the flexibility to rent EVs on an hourly or daily basis as per their needs.
Amit Gupta, Co-founder & CEO of Yulu, expresses excitement about expanding their YBP initiative to Kochi, emphasizing the city’s cultural significance and environmentally conscious population. He envisions Kochi as a destination with zero carbon footprint for visitors worldwide within five years. Through the partnership, Yulu has provided Zeco Mobility with its ‘Miracle’ EVs and advanced mobility-tech platform, along with necessary training and support for day-to-day operations.
Apart from Kochi and Indore, Yulu operates in major metropolitan areas, serving millions of users and preventing significant CO2 emissions. Their partnership with leading delivery and e-commerce companies further contributes to sustainable mobility solutions and green deliveries.
