Kia America proudly announced its second-highest first quarter sales in company history, with a notable surge in electrified models and SUVs driving the impressive performance. The company reported March sales of 69,472 units, marking a substantial achievement in its sales trajectory.
Sales of electrified models experienced a commendable 9% growth compared to the previous year, with electric vehicles (EVs) witnessing a remarkable surge of 151% over the same period. This surge reflects a growing consumer interest in Kia’s eco-friendly offerings and underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The robust sales performance was largely fueled by three key models – Forte, Sportage, and Telluride – each exceeding 10,000 units in March. Additionally, the recently launched Sorento saw a remarkable 28% growth in sales compared to the previous year, further bolstering Kia’s position in the market.
“Our growth in SUVs and the early success of the all-new, all-electric three-row EV9 have contributed to Kia’s exceptional first quarter sales,” commented Eric Watson, vice president of sales operations, Kia America. “With exciting launches such as the K4 compact sedan and the refreshed Carnival and K5 models on the horizon, Kia is poised to maintain its momentum and captivate consumers and industry alike.”
In addition to the impressive sales figures, Kia America unveiled several noteworthy initiatives, including the global recognition of its all-electric three-row SUV, the EV9, at the 2024 World Car Awards. Winning both the prestigious World Car of the Year and World Electric Vehicle titles, the EV9 underscored Kia’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the electric vehicle segment.
Furthermore, Kia showcased its commitment to safety and quality with the Kia Telluride receiving the esteemed title of the best 3-row midsize SUV in U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Cars for Families” award program for the fifth consecutive year. Additionally, the 2024 Telluride and Sportage earned top safety ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), reaffirming Kia’s dedication to providing vehicles that offer superior protection for both occupants and pedestrians.
The Kia EV9 continued its winning streak by being named the World’s Best Car for 2024 by the Women’s Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) awards, further cementing its position as a global leader in automotive excellence.
As Kia America continues to innovate and deliver cutting-edge vehicles, its commitment to excellence, sustainability, and safety remains unwavering, promising a bright future for the brand and its customers.
