Kia has created a groundbreaking installation in Norway in collaboration with VOID experiential design studio and Innocean creative agency. Using a 5-meter LED disc powered by a Kia EV9, they have delivered sunlight to one of the country’s darkest regions, where winter daylight is scarce.

Highlighting the EV9’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology, the temporary sun highlights sunlight’s significance. Insufficient light can affect energy, mental health, immunity, and sleep.

The light installation graced Rampton, a campground on a fjord 35 kilometers southwest of Oslo. Visible from kilometers away, the temporary sun was powered by the EV9 for twenty-four hours. The EV9 journeyed from Oslo to Rampton, powered the light, and returned without any range concerns.

Kia Smart Charge revolutionizes electric vehicle power usage with bidirectional charging, allowing energy to flow in and out of the vehicle. With V2L technology, powered by the Kia EV6 and standard in the EV9, users can power 110V/220V appliances using the EV9’s 99.8 kWh battery by just plugging the cable into the vehicle’s charging port.

This technology also facilitates V2H (Vehicle-to-Home), V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid), and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle) connectivity. In the United States, Wallbox collaborates with Kia America to offer bidirectional charging for EV9 customers. Meanwhile, in Europe, Kia will partner with Jedlix to initiate a V2G pilot program in the Netherlands.

“The EV9 is exciting when moving, but also when stationary with innovative features such as bidirectional charging,” said David Hilbert, Head of Marketing, Kia Europe. “This technology can extend the role electric vehicles play in our lives, whether it’s for camping, providing a power source for a mobile office, or even being part of the broader electricity grid with the Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology.”

“By blending cutting-edge technology with artistic expression, we’ve created an art installation that captures not only the essence of Kia’s brand but also responds to real life challenges. With this project we continue to push the limits of creativity and innovation with Kia, always with the aim of inspiring others,” added Gabriel Mattar, COO, Innocean.

The EV9 embodies SUV robustness, modern electric vehicle design, and state-of-the-art technologies, positioning it as a leader in its category. Leveraging the Electric Global Modular Platform, it delivers impressive performance and a remarkable all-electric range exceeding 563 km. With ultra-fast 800-volt charging, it can also recharge up to 249 km of range in just 15 minutes.
