Jindal Steel & Power (JSP), a prominent steel producer in India, has taken a substantial leap towards its Net Zero goals by introducing 10 electric buses and 27 electric SUVs at its Angul unit in Odisha. This strategic move underscores JSP’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and decarbonization.
Mr. Naveen Jindal, Chairman of Jindal Steel & Power, launched the electric vehicles, emphasizing the company’s dedication to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship. The deployment of electric buses and the implementation of extensive solar installations at the Angul unit signify crucial strides in JSP’s pursuit of Net Zero, contributing to a cleaner and greener Earth.
JSP Angul has ordered a total of 27 electric buses and 45 electric SUVs, all zero-emission vehicles, fostering a reduction in carbon emissions at the plant level and enhancing operational safety. The company places a significant emphasis on adhering to global standards in sourcing and manufacturing these electric vehicles.
In a further commitment to green practices, JSP Angul has commissioned a rooftop solar plant with a cumulative generation capacity of 21 million units per year. This initiative is expected to curtail the unit’s annual CO2 footprint by 18,000 tons, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting approximately 3.6 lakh trees over a decade.
With these substantial investments, JSP continues to set industry benchmarks in India’s steel sector by integrating sustainability into its core operations. The company’s leadership in adopting electric vehicles and clean energy solutions sets the stage for a more environmentally conscious and sustainable future for the entire industry.
