BYD is expanding its electric vehicle range in India with the imminent launch of the Seal electric sedan on March 5. This addition will join BYD’s existing EV lineup in India, including the Atto 3 electric SUV and e6 electric MPV.
Initially showcased during the January Auto Expo last year, the Seal EV’s launch was delayed but is now set to hit the Indian market. The BYD Seal, a global rival to the Tesla Model 3, features a length of 4,800 mm, width of 1,875 mm, and height of 1,460 mm. Built on BYD’s dedicated e-Platform 3.0, the Seal boasts an aerodynamic body with a drag coefficient of just 0.21 cd.
Inside, it offers premium aesthetics, a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a head-up display, and two wireless charging pads.
The EV is equipped with BYD’s Blade battery technology, offering two battery options in global markets: a 61.4 kWh battery providing a range of 550 km, and an 82.5 kWh unit offering up to 700 km on a single charge (CLTC).
The Seal supports fast charging up to 150 kW and 110 kW, depending on the battery pack. In India, the Seal will come with a more powerful dual-motor option, delivering a combined 523 bhp and accelerating from 0-100 kmph in 3.8 seconds.
Priced around ₹65-70 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the BYD Seal will compete with models like the Kia EV6 and BMW i4 in the premium electric vehicle segment.
