Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, on Tuesday, inaugurated 5,150 air-conditioned electric buses for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) fleet. During his address at the Khopat bus depot in Thane, Shinde urged for enhancements in all ST bus depots across the state to improve passenger amenities. Additionally, he announced surprise inspections to oversee ongoing improvements. The introduction of these electric buses is a noteworthy move towards modernization and ecological sustainability, emphasizing the shift from diesel to LNG buses for pollution reduction. Shinde pledged swift resolution of pending matters related to MSRTC workers, highlighting the need for effective competition with private bus operators. Furthermore, he stressed the significance of extending e-bus and AC bus services to rural areas in the state.

Government Launches Pilot Project for Green Hydrogen in Transport Sector
In a significant move towards sustainable energy adoption, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Hydrogen Division, announced the initiation of the Scheme for Pilot projects aimed at implementing Green Hydrogen in the Transport Sector under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). The primary objectives of this scheme are manifold. Firstly, it seeks to facilitate the gradual introduction of Green Hydrogen as a fuel for buses, trucks, and four-wheeler vehicles on a trial basis. Additionally, the scheme aims to validate the technical feasibility and performance of these vehicles under real-world operational conditions, while also assessing their economic viability. It also aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hydrogen refuelling stations and identify areas for improvement. The safety and security of hydrogen-based vehicles and refuelling stations will also be rigorously demonstrated and evaluated under this scheme.

In a significant move towards bolstering the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has finalized a binding Share Subscription Agreement (SSA) with 3ev Industries Pvt. Ltd (3ev), marking a substantial Rs. 96 crore investment. The agreement, signed at MGL’s offices in Mumbai, represents the entire Series A equity investment and is anticipated to be implemented in phases, subject to standard closing provisions. The initial tranche of investment is slated for completion by the end of this month. Established in 2019 in Bangalore, Karnataka, 3ev specializes in manufacturing L5 category three-wheel cargo and passenger vehicles, along with ICE-to-EV converted electric vehicles.

MG Motor India has joined forces with BatX Energies, a greenfield startup, to unveil India’s inaugural off-grid solar-EV charging station, powered by repurposed MG EV batteries. The launch event, held at IIT Delhi and inaugurated by Prof. Ajay Sood, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, included a live demonstration of the product. Developed by BatX Energies in collaboration with MG, the second-life battery storage system aims to give used MG EV batteries a new lease on life. The solar EV charging station, currently in the industrialization phase, operates off-grid and is designed to charge 2-wheelers to 4-wheelers.
