The Delhi government has issued a prohibition on the operation of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the national capital, aligning with the Central government’s directive to address deteriorating air quality in Delhi as well as the National Capital Region.

This decision comes as the Commission for Air Quality Management observed a significant increase in Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) due to adverse weather conditions and local sources of pollution.

In anticipation of prolonged severe air quality, the government has implemented Stage-III curbs of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) immediately.

The restrictions include a ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, with exceptions for emergency services, police, and government enforcement vehicles.

Violators will face fines under the Motor Vehicles Act. The GRAP, a winter-season air pollution control plan, categorizes actions into four stages based on AQI levels: Poor, Very Poor, Severe, and Severe Plus.
