Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has called on the automobile industry to target a significant increase in the export share of vehicles, urging them to aim for 50% of all passenger vehicles produced in India by 2030, up from the current 14%.

Goyal emphasized India’s advantages in labor costs and skilled manpower and encouraged the industry not to limit itself to a 25% export share.

The remarks were made at the curtain raiser event which is touted as India’s first global mobility expo and will feature over 600 exhibitors from 50 countries, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and innovations in mobility.

The minister highlighted that more than 27 leading vehicle manufacturers will unveil new models and electric vehicles, demonstrating the industry’s commitment to innovation.

Additionally, the event will host over 400 auto component manufacturers and more than 1,000 brands from 13 global markets, showcasing a wide range of products and services, including EV infrastructure solutions like charging stations and battery swapping.

India aims to increase its contribution to global vehicle exports from the current 14% to about 25% by 2030, with a similar target for two-wheelers.
