Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a fleet of 500 electric buses on Thursday, bringing the total count of electric buses in New Delhi to 1300.

During the event, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his joy, stating, “I am pleased that 500 buses have been introduced. I extend my congratulations to the people of Delhi for this achievement. I appreciate LG Vinai Kumar Saxena for gracing the occasion. With this addition, Delhi now boasts 1,300 electric buses, making us the leading city in the nation in terms of electric bus numbers.”

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena highlighted the positive impact of the electric buses on curbing pollution in the national capital, stating, “These 500 buses introduced today will contribute significantly to pollution control. Efforts are underway to enhance the pollution situation in Delhi, with more steps to be taken in the future.”

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot emphasized the role of this initiative in reducing carbon dioxide levels in the city, stating, “With the launch of 500 new electric buses today, the city’s electric bus count will reach 1300, the highest in any city in the country. This will contribute to pollution reduction. An electric bus covers 200 km per day and 70,000 km annually. According to reports, one CNG bus emits 800 grams of CO2 into the environment. This initiative will help curb thousands and lakhs of tonnes of CO2.”
