The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST), a major public transportation provider in Mumbai, aims to have an exclusively clean energy-powered bus fleet, predominantly electric, by 2027, according to Maharashtra industry minister Uday Samant.

The BEST undertaking has already finalized tenders for 3,000 electric buses, including 200 buses running on compressed natural gas (CNG). Out of the 3,000 electric buses, 900 will be double-deckers, while the CNG buses will be single-deckers.

The initiative is part of BEST’s strategy to transition its entire bus fleet to non-polluting fuels by 2027, contributing to passenger convenience and reducing Mumbai’s carbon footprint.

Recently, The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking has received 10 new single-decker electric buses from the Hyderabad-based company Olectra Greentech, as confirmed by civic officials.
