Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has taken a significant stride towards sustainable mobility by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for advanced research collaboration.

This collaboration, part of Mercedes-Benz’s Ambition 2039 initiative, aims to make the entire fleet of new vehicles net carbon-neutral across the entire value chain and life cycle by 2039.

The partnership focuses on joint research, talent development, and collaborative innovation in sustainable mobility, emphasizing engineering transformation and long-term research projects. Both entities will leverage existing capabilities, infrastructure, and academic programs.

Manu Saale, CEO of MBRDI, expressed excitement about bridging the gap between industry and academia, bringing cutting-edge Indian engineering research to the global stage.

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of IISc, highlighted the collaboration’s potential impact on sustainable mobility and electric vehicles, promoting energy independence and creating economic opportunities.

The Foundation for Science Innovation and Development (FSID) will facilitate IISc’s interactions with industry, managing access to its knowledge base and resources.

The two-year agreement covers information exchange, teaching materials, joint funding opportunities, intellectual property generation and protection, and research sponsorship.
