Suzuki Motor Corporation, Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd., and Toyota Motor Corporation have announced their collaboration in developing prototype mini-commercial van electric vehicles (BEVs) equipped with a jointly developed BEV system. The unveiling of these prototypes took place at an exhibition event organized by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) during the G7 Hiroshima Summit, showcasing the automotive industry’s efforts toward achieving carbon neutrality.
The collaboration leverages the expertise of Suzuki and Daihatsu in manufacturing small-size cars and combines it with Toyota’s electrification technology to create a BEV system specifically tailored for mini-commercial vehicles. Daihatsu will be responsible for the production of these vehicles, with Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota planning to release their own versions within the fiscal year 2023.
Commercial Japan Partnership Technologies Corporation (CJPT) also participated in the project, contributing to the development of optimal specifications for efficient last-mile logistics. The target is to achieve a cruising range of approximately 200 kilometers per charge, ensuring the vehicles meet the requirements of the delivery industry.
This collaboration reflects the commitment of Suzuki, Daihatsu, and Toyota to promote sustainable transportation and contribute to the goal of carbon neutrality. By introducing electric mini-commercial vans, the companies aim to provide environmentally friendly and efficient options for last-mile delivery services.
