The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh, or NREDCAP, is helping to set up 250 electric vehicle charging stations this year and another 100 next year.
In order to support this initiative, Energy Minister Peddireddy Reddy inaugurated a charging facility near the Durga Temple in the city. He also launched the Renewable Energy Resources Centre or RERC which was established by NREDCAP & Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science & Technology or APCOST.
The energy minister urged the citizens of the state to adopt electric vehicles to benefit both the economy and the environment.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy called for electric vehicle promotion. Ramachandra Reddy said that based on this decision, Tirupati has 100 electric buses and we plan to increase them to 1,000 in the entire state.
He also said that Vijayawada will be transformed into a charging infrastructure model by installing 105 stations, and the success in converting three-wheelers to EVs at Tirupati will be replicated throughout the state.
State plans for charging infrastructure align with national goals of net-zero emissions by 2070.
AP has also developed policies to encourage employees of the government to purchase EVs. They are distributing 1lakh vehicles via EMI and allowing them to pay road taxes and registration fees.
