Triumph Motorcycles Limited and Bajaj Auto Ltd have inaugurated the second phase of their 2020 strategic relationship. As part of the following phase, Bajaj will handle Triumph Motorcycle distribution in India. As a result, from April 1st, 2023, all 15 Triumph Motorcycle stores will be controlled by Bajaj Auto.
With this development, Triumph’s network becomes the sixth exclusive retail channel in Bajaj Auto Ltd.’s portfolio, joining KTM, Bajaj Motorcycles, Chetak Electric, and Bajaj 3-wheeler. Triumph dealers join Bajaj’s nationwide network of 6000 dealers and sub-dealers.
Along these sidelines, the press release also stated that a new mid-size Triumph motorbike will be released later this year. The exact specifications of the motorcycle(s) are yet to be determined. But, spy shots of this product being tested on the road reveal the roadster body shape these motorcycles will have.
Moreover, the bikes were co-developed by both firms and will be manufactured at Bajaj’s Chakan facility. This should lower the cost of manufacture, and hence its ex-showroom costs are likely to be cheaper. In terms of engine capacity, Triumph previously revealed that there would be numerous engine displacement options ranging from 250cc to 750cc.
“The Triumph dealer network has been a great business partner for Triumph; they have achieved many great results with Triumph Motorcycles in India and have served our 9000+ customers incredibly well since we entered the market back in 2014,” Paul Stroud, Chief Commercial Officer Triumph Motorcycles Ltd, said during the event.
“We are excited about the growth that we can now achieve through a partnership with Bajaj Auto Ltd, here in India, and look forward to welcoming many more customers to the Triumph brand,” he added.
The new Triumph mid-sized motorbike line will provide a fresh entrance point for various new customers to the British brand. To that end, Bajaj Auto intends to open Triumph stores in over 120 places over the next two years (till 2025). All of these new showrooms will bear the Triumph badge and will meet the global standards of the British manufacturer; nevertheless, the operations will be handled by Bajaj staff.
