Ather Energy, an Indian manufacturer of electric scooters, has placed the 580th public charging point (fast) in India. These charging points, known as Ather Grid are located in 56 cities across the country.

Hero MotoCorp-backed Ather Energy has plans to set up 820 more such grids, bringing the total to 1,400 by FY23. These charging points were strategically placed across markets with 60% of the current installations in Tier-2 as well as Tier-3 cities, stated Ravneet Phokela Chief Business Officer of Ather Energy.

He stated, “As the demand for charging infrastructure grows, and as we expand our retail network in new markets, it becomes crucial that we support this expansion with strong investments in charging infrastructure. We recently opened our proprietary charging connector to OEMs. OEMs must collaborate in order to build infrastructure as well as interoperability, which is an essential requirement. The interoperability of charging connectors through common standards provides incentives for OEMs and independent charging infrastructure providers to invest more in charging infrastructure.”

Ather Grid allows EV owners the ability to charge their vehicles at 1.5 km/min for up to 80%. The app supports the charging network and allows EV owners to find and verify the availability of nearby charging stations. The fast charging network is available to all electric four-wheelers and two-wheelers. This facility is free for everyone up until December 2022.
