Convergence Energy Services Ltd. (CESL), will install 810 charging stations for electric vehicles on 16 highways and expressways that cover 10,275 km in the country.
CESL, under the Ministry of Power, is a subsidiary of Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), has found prices for 810 electric vehicle charging stations according to a statement.
According to the statement, the selected corridors include major routes like the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Mumbai-Pune highway, Delhi-Agra Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Nagpur Highway, Hyderabad ORR Expressway, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara Highway among others.
CESL uses a service procurement model to set up these charging stations.
In the public-private partnership model, CESL will join hands with companies which will invest in and also operate these EV charging stations on the expressways and highways. These charging stations will be installed in the next six to eight months.
The Ministry of Heavy Industries manages the FAME II scheme that involves the installation of charging infrastructure on highways.
These charging stations for electric vehicles will serve both private and public vehicles, as well as those on the road today, such as Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona, MG ZS EV, and other compatible EVs with electric buses.
CESL provides fast DC connectors and will install 590 EV chargers with 50kW capacity, as well as 220 EV chargers with higher 100kW capacities. Chargers with 50kW capacity will be installed every 25 km, and 100kW chargers every 100 km.
This tender achieved the government’s vision of blending subsidy and investment and encouraging private investment in the EV charging stations businesses.
