Volvo Trucks and Deutsche Post DHL Group have signed a cooperation agreement to accelerate the shift to zero exhaust emission vehicles.
DHL intends to intensify its transition to heavy electric trucks by deploying a total of 44 new electric Volvo trucks on routes in Europe. The intended order includes 40 electric trucks of the model Volvo FE and Volvo FL, to be used for package deliveries in urban transports.
For package delivery in urban transports, these 44 electric trucks are planned. DHL will also use electric trucks to transport longer distances. DHL plans to start using Volvo trucks for regional hauling. DHL currently has four Volvo FM Electric trucks available in the UK.
Six trucks were ordered by DHL Parcel UK, and two by DHL Freight. This will allow Deutsche Post DHL Group to save nearly 600 tons CO2 annually and almost 225,000 liters diesel fuel.

The conversion of our vehicle fleet is an important tool to reduce CO2 emissions as a logistics provider. This agreement with Volvo Trucks will benefit several of our divisions,” Pablo Ciano, Executive Vice president for Corporate Development at Deutsche Post DHL Group, says.
DHL’s decision not to reduce emissions was influenced by the positive experience with the electric Volvo truck it uses in London. The Volvo trucks are used to make last-mile deliveries to the West End shopping area. This vehicle was the first fully electric commercial heavy truck that could be used for urban logistics in UK.

This cooperation includes the adoption of new Volvo technologies as well as joint development activities in the field of electrification. Volvo Trucks will also analyze DHL’s transport operations in order to determine if DHL can deploy tailor-made electric transport solutions.
Volvo Trucks leads the European market for heavy all electric trucks with 42% market share in 2021. Volvo Trucks began serial production of electric trucks in 2019 as one of the first truck brands to do so. Volvo Trucks has supplied electric trucks to many customers across Europe, North America, and Australia.
