Hyundai To Drive in Electric Model IONIQ 5 in India This Year

Hyundai Motor India announced Today that it will bring its internationally acclaimed electric vehicle, IONIQ 5, to India in the coming year.

The launch of the model will be during the festive season in the second half. It marks the start of the company’s plans to expand its battery electric vehicle range in the country.

Hyundai Motor India CEO Unsoo K said that the company, as a customer-centric brand, is focusing very strongly on electric mobility across its business and product ranges for a progressive future.

He said that the company had already committed to expanding its battery electric vehicle (BEV), line-up in the country by 2028 to six models.

“Today we are proud to announce the launch of IONIQ 5, in CY22, India. IONIQ 5, which is a revolutionary new era in electric mobility, will redefine customers’ expectations with solutions that surpass all spheres, elevating their mobility experience beyond the ordinary,” Kim said.

He said that Hyundai was happy to partner with India because of its 25-year history of success in India.

Hyundai announced in December 2017 that it would invest Rs. 4,000 crore in six electric cars in India by 2028. Over the next few years, Hyundai plans to release a mixture of models that are based on existing ranges and completely new models that are based on its global platform “E-GMP”.

Hyundai’s six BEVs cater to multiple segments, including the mass market and premium segments of India.
