The Chandigarh administration plans to install 100 electric vehicle charging stations in the city to boost the electric vehicle ecosystem. The administration will issue the tender in the coming days.
“The tender document has been prepared in a manner that interested companies can quote their rates. The lowest price cited will be given preference to allot the work that is to be completed in two years. We are hoping for a good competition to provide this facility at cheap rates,” the source said.
Chandigarh currently has 17 EV charging stations at different locations. The government also has given approval and no objection certificate for installing 37 EV charging stations.
Chandigarh launched its ‘Draft EV Policy 2022’ in February to accelerate the adoption process of electric vehicles. Under the policy, the registration fee has been waived off for EVs and an exemption from road tax has been provided till 2024. For the next 5 years, EV parking chargers at parking lots that are run by Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will be waived off entirely.
Chandigarh will also convert its commercial vehicles by March 2024 into an EV fleet including courier services, cab services, and food delivery companies. All above incentives are applicable only to those Electric Vehicles (EV) which are Purchased and registered in Chandigarh.
