Nitin Raut, the energy minister of Maharashtra announces that Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) to set up 50 electric vehicle charging stations for the state.
This includes 18 EV stations in Pune, 10 in Navi Mumbai, 6 in Thane, 6 in Nagpur, and 2 each in Solapur, Kolhapur, Nashik, Aurangabad, and Amravati. Maharashtra govt plans to have 5000 EV charging stations across the state and 1500 in just Mumbai.
The govt has collaborated with petrol pumps to set up these charging stations. The cost per km of electric vehicle is very low when compared with diesel, CNG or petrol.
He said, “If this model is a success, the next step would be to increase the number of charging stations in schools and colleges premises so that students would have easy access for charging.”
The electricity chargers starts with Rs.5.50 per unit which is very reasonable and lower than other consumption charges. During night hours between 10 PM – 6 AM, the rate is Rs.4.50 per unit.
