On Thursday, Omega Seiki Mobility (OSM) and Jae Sung Tech, a Korean EV powertrain manufacturer, announced the formation of a new Joint Venture (JV) – OSM Jae Sung Tech Co., LTD – to fabricate electric powertrains in India.
With Jae Sung delivering its years of expertise in technical know-how, and OSM will bring manufacturing prowess to localize the powertrain, the initial product of the JV will be the Ra314 powertrain, which will be available in Q1 FY23 with OSM’s freight electric three-wheeler Rage+.
The new powertrain will be built by OSM in the facility of its group company, Omega Bright Steel and Components, in Faridabad and Pune. OSM will test and calibrate the Ra314 for typical Indian driving circumstances.
In accordance with internal testing done by OSM and Jae Sung, the combined motor, gearbox design is 30% more efficient and 20% lighter than the current power units used in electric three-wheelers. It has an IP 67 rating and will not stop working even if immersed in water for 30 minutes.
The Ra314 has been carefully tested and is designed to operate in high temperatures ranging from +50°C to -20°C, allowing the power unit to be at home anywhere in the country, be it Rajasthan’s blistering sun or the frigid cold of the Himalayas.
“With this JV, I am confident the Rage+ will be an even greater value proposition,” stated Uday Narang, Founder and Chairman of Omega Seiki Mobility, this new power unit will usher in a new age of backward integration, increasing the efficiency of their products.
With plans to employ Ra314’s integrated and modular architecture to provide customized power solutions to other EV manufacturers in India, the JV will assist in the speedier adoption of EVs in the country, he added.

Ra314 will totally be manufactured in India with Jae Sung technological support, stated Deb Mukherji, MD of Omega Seiki Mobility. It’s a next-generation powertrain with IoT that will allow customers to track the performance of their vehicle via a mobile phone app, and it will be used in OSM’s forthcoming products, including three and four-wheelers.
