Commuters in Karnataka’s state capital, Bengaluru, will soon be able to travel aboard electric buses. On Monday, the state’s Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai, officially flagged off the first-ever batch of 25 electric buses in the city. These buses have been manufactured by JBM Auto and will be used by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

These buses will operate from the bus terminals in Kengeri, Yeshwantpur, and KR Puram.

JBM Auto Ltd. will equip Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) with 90 electric buses in total for its first electric bus project.

The business stated that 25 vehicles were flagged off on Monday out of the initial batch of 40 electric buses supplied to BMTC and that the remaining 50 e-buses will be delivered in the following months.

“The JBM ECO-LIFE electric buses will operate as metro feeder services as part of the Smart City programme. JBM Auto got an order for 90 non-AC electric buses for the city of Bengaluru earlier this year.” JBM said in a press statement.

These non-AC buses have a seating capacity of 33 people, excluding the seat for the driver and can travel 120 kilometres between charges thanks to 6 Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC) battery packs, at an utmost speed of 70 km/h.

According to the company, these buses include all current amenities such as Real-Time Passenger Information System (PIS), Automatic Bus Vehicle Location System, Panic Buttons for emergencies, Public Address System, Stop Request Buttons, and CCTV cameras to mention a few.

JBM’s 30 ECO-LIFE electric buses have already been operating effectively in Navi Mumbai for the past two years under the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport Corporation (NMMT).

Previously this year, the firm has also provided 90 electric buses to Ahmedabad and 15 to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
