25 modern battery-powered buses will be roaming the roadways of Sangam city in the next few months. These buses are scheduled to begin service in January or February of next year.
The buses have been registered with the district regional transport office (RTO) and will run along two key city routes, one from Shantipuram (Phaphamau) to Raymond Crossing (Naini) and the other from Trivenipuram (Jhunsi) to Puramufti (Manauri).
Prayagraj City Transport Service Limited (PCTSL) officials have created a precise route plan for these buses, and a mega charging station, spanning around 6,000 square metres, has been built near the age-old bridge over the Yamuna (Naini side) where 25 electric vehicles can be charged at once.
“We have already received 25 buses that have been registered with the local RTO, which will be functioning on the roads in a few months,” PCTSL, MD, TK Bisen confirmed.
Furthermore, the authorities have endorsed the arrival of another batch of 25 e-buses designated to trek three additional routes in a few months, bringing the total number of courses to five.
“When we obtain the additional 25 buses, they will run on three routes Railway Station to Lalgopalganj, Bhairana to Shankargarh, and Civil Lines to Pratappur,” the MD explained.
All these buses are fully air-conditioned and are fitted with numerous other features like the announcement system of the next stoppage before arriving, a music system, a mic with a driver to interact with passengers as needed, low battery indicator, GPS and a CCTV at the driver seat to provide a full view of passengers.
The bus service will be functional from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and it will have 28 seats along with 22 standing passengers’ capacity. Two seats are provided for the specially-abled people. To ensure the safety of its travellers, the bus will only begin its journey when both gates have been completely closed.
