Flexible Fuel Will Be Mandatory For Car Manufacturers

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways said that in 2-3 days, the government will issue an order for mandating automobile manufacturer in introducing flexible-fuel vehicles (FFVs).

FFVs comes with internal combustion engine which can be used with both gasoline and ethanol. Gasolines includes petrol and diesel. Countries like Sweden, Brazil, Germany, and France already uses FFVs.

India imports 8 lakh crore petroleum products annually and if this dependence on fossil fuel continues, then the import bill will increase to Rs 25 lakhs in the coming 5 years.

Nitin Gadkari, said, “To reduce import of fossil fuels, I am going to sign a file in the next 2-3 days, in which carmakers will be asked to make flex-fuel engines vehicles (that can run on more than one fuel).”

Flexible-fuel or flex-fuel is an alternative fuel which is made with combining methanol or ethanol with gasoline.

Companies like Suzuki, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Hyundai Motor will introduce flexible fuel engines in their vehicles.
