February Month Figures:
The total electric vehicles that got registered in India in the month of February 2021 were 19,033. The state with the highest contribution to this figure was Uttar Pradesh with a share of 24%. This was followed by Tamil Nadu with a share of 15% whereas the states of Delhi and Bihar were at 8% each.
When it comes to companies, Tata Nexon EV was the best selling electric car of India in February(427 units). MG Motors’ latest model ZS EV came second with 204 units. Very recently, following a complaint by a Tata Nexon EV owner, the Delhi government decided to suspend the subsidy for it under the Delhi EV Policy. This is likely to impact the popularity and sales of Nexon in the coming months.
Comparison With Previous Month:
For January, the total electric vehicles registered were 16,205. February saw a significant Month on Month rise of 17.45%.

Highlights:
- Under the FAME-India Scheme, Rs 212 crore were released for procurement of E-buses.
- The government declared subsidies for 62,000 E-cars and Buses; 15L Electric 3-, 2-wheelers.
- A policy is being planned for advanced battery technology to power EVs.
- The Center’s Go Electric campaign was launched By Mr. Nitin Gadkari.
- Goa Clean Mobility scheme was launched wherein multiple incentives were announced for Electric Two-Wheelers and registration charge is waived off.
- The Delhi government in particular took a lot of steps on the policy front
- Switch Delhi campaign was announced. The government has decided to switch to E-vehicles in the next 6 months.
- Delhi also decided to set up EV charging stations every 3km to ease the charging infrastructure issues.
- A tender was floated for setting up 100 EV charging stations.
- The state of Meghalaya came up with a new EV policy.
