Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of Mahindra Group, has applauded Delhi government’s new electric vehicle (EV) policy 2020. He stated that the template provided by the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, if emulated, can provide new momentum to the movement in India.
Recently Anand tweeted that “Delhi is rightfully the cradle of the EV revolution. This policy has set a new benchmark. It is a template which, if emulated, can provide new momentum to the movement in India”.
My compliments and thanks to Delhi Govt. And Arvind Kejriwal for Delhi announcing a long term futuristic Electric vehicle policy. Mahindra will work jointly to transform the mobility to sustainable in Delhi,” Mahesh Babu tweeted and also supported the EV Plan.
“I am glad Delhi’s EV policy has been well received by all stakeholders. It was prepared after wide-ranging consultations spanning over a period of more than 2 years. Now, I seek everyone’s cooperation in successfully implementing it,” Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.
On 7th August, The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, Transport Department has recently issued an EV policy titled “ Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2020”.
The policy states that a new approach is required to kick-start the adoption of Electric Vehicles in Delhi and despite the Govt. push, the pace of adoption of Electric vehicles failed to meet the expectations. Hence the ministry seeks to put in place a comprehensive set of measures for giving impetus to the adoption of Electric Vehicles.
The primary objective of the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy, 2020 is to establish Delhi as the EV capital of India and accelerate the pace of EV adoption across vehicle segments, especially in the mass category of two- wheelers, public/shared transport vehicles and goods carriers. The policy shall seek to drive rapid adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) so that they contribute to 25% of all new vehicle registrations by 2024 and bring about a material improvement in Delhi’s environment by bringing down emissions from the transport sector.
The Policy also aims to support the creation of jobs in driving, selling, financing, servicing and charging of Electric Vehicles.
Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister at Government of NCT of Delhi stated that ” The policy will provide purchase incentives of Rs 30k-Rs 1.5 lakh, scrapping incentives, low-interest loans, and road tax and registration fee waivers. By 2024, we want to ensure that electric vehicles constitute 25% of new vehicle registrations. Currently, they are at 0.2%.”
