Chargefox, Australia’s largest public electric vehicle (EV) charging network, has expanded with the opening of the first ultra-rapid charging station in Ballina, New South Wales. This site joins Sydney, Goulburn, Karuah and Shell Cove as destinations which offer this world-leading charging technology. New South Wales is now home to 5 ultra-rapid chargers, and when combined with the wider Chargefox public charging network, makes it one of the best serviced states for EV travel in Australia.

The location in Ballina means locals and tourists alike have access to this world-class technology, delivering up to 400km of range in only 15 minutes and backed up by 100% renewable energy.

Marty Andrews, Chargefox CEO, said, “The addition of the Ballina site marks a milestone for EV drivers in New South Wales and beyond. There are now even more ways to travel around the state, and connect with Chargefox charging infrastructure in Queensland and, in the future, Victoria. The expansion of our charging network, combined with partnerships for free and discounted charging on major EV models, means we’re driving down barriers to EV ownership and helping Australians make the switch to electric. Whilst our network allows travel along Australia’s East Coast without any long charging stops, we encourage EV owners to use those facilities within Covid-19 restrictions and stay closer to home where required.’

Ms. Nell Payne, Executive General Manager, Motoring at NRMA said, “The new charging station in Ballina is an important milestone for Chargefox and NRMA members. A reliable charging network is critical to ensure that all electric vehicle owners can, in the future, travel where they need to without worrying about running out of charge or spending hours waiting for a recharge. We know that range anxiety is a real barrier to the uptake of EVs so more chargers connecting more destinations will go a long way to alleviating these concerns.”

Andrews concludes, “With 14 ultra-rapid stations now open, and hundreds more public plugs within our network, EV drivers are never far from a Chargefox charger. In the coming months we will add more charging infrastructure to our network, connecting Australia’s major cities for the thousands of EV drivers in the future.”
